The learners take control of a boutique at Manor Geneva
“Super beneficial”, “Incredible”, “Stylish!”: these are the descriptions used by Manor students for the extraordinary educational experience they partake in: the “Youngstar Academy”. Throughout the month of November, Manor Geneva has entrusted its sales trainees with the “keys” and the entire management of a Geneva department store boutique, following the system of a famous French television show.
After passing a TV show-like casting, first-year apprentices aged 17 to 23 accept the challenge of discovering the “Young Fashion” boutique for a month at this Manor Geneva, with an area of more than 500 m2 and to fully direct more than 15 brands specifically tailored to the expectations of a young audience. Last year, the same concept was implemented with learners in the second and fourth grades.
“The learners are both the present and the future of our company, so it is important to invest in the young generation: they are trained and at the same time given comprehensive tasks, according to the principle of ‘learning by doing’. At Manor Geneva we implement this principle by allowing learners to freely nurture their creativity and spirit of innovation while we coach them. In this way, they become aware of their potential and can successfully develop it further,” emphasizes Selim Arcan, Store Director of Manor Geneva.
A ranking based on the performances of the youngsters is maintained every week. It includes the development of their skills in the various areas of logistics, goods management, daily checkout, sales monitoring, but also in visual merchandising with the design of the sales area. They are being coached by the project’s director, Rosa Chabloz, Sales Manager, and a dozen managers from various departments of the department store. The basic motto is to focus on the customer.
Christian, one of the four young stars, whose enthusiasm, like that of his colleagues, is palpable every day, describes his impressions halfway through: “Manor put their trust in us and that is a great privilege. We feel valued and see that we are trusted. It’s an incredible opportunity to run the boutique from A to Z. I will return with many new skills and a first class service in my everyday life.”
In this sense, the goal of the program is not only to develop the entrepreneurial skills of the learners, but also to strengthen their team spirit and self-confidence. It’s also an incredible learning experience for all occasions on this project. Learners will return with expanded knowledge of running a business in their respective industries, and trainers will gain further experience in training Gen Z.
