Several people to hospital after a fire in an apartment building in Moss – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country
Four people have been sent to Kalnes hospital, while five people have been sent to the emergency room, the East police district says, on the night of Saturday.
– I do not have an overview of the degree of injury of those who have been sent to hospital, but we are talking about people who have inhaled smoke and the supply of oxygen, says operations manager Trond Lorentzen in the East police district to NRK.
The police received a report about the fire just before 11.30pm on Friday evening. The operations manager says that several of the residents in the block of flats had to have help to get out.
– There was a huge fire in an apartment when we arrived at the scene. There was also a lot of smoke in the building, and several people had to be helped to get out, says Lorentzen.
Moss Newspaper writes that several residents were rescued with a ladder truck.
Eyewitness: – We saw large flames
An eyewitness NRK has spoken to tells about a very dramatic situation.
– We were sitting in the living room watching TV when we suddenly saw a lot of blue light outside. When we went out on the balcony we saw large flames coming out of the neighboring building. Five minutes later, the police came to the door and said we had to evacuate, says neighbour, Patryk Dajka, to NRK.
He further says that several people received health care outside.
– Many were very rescued and stressed and there were several who needed health care. I would like to thank the emergency services for their efforts. They were very professional, he says on the phone to NRK.
A total of 42 people have been evacuated after the fire. Both the third and fourth floors of the building are uninhabitable after the fire, according to the local newspaper.
The municipality is working to provide alternative housing for those involved, the police say.
