National Judo Championship: Judogym clears at U-14 championship
At the Judo State Championships in Straßwalchen, things are getting hot this autumn, matching the weather. The youngsters were also able to celebrate some triumphs. The U14 team from the Salzburg-Seekirchen judo gym won the mixed team championship.
STRASSWALCHEN. The U14 team from the Salzburg-Seekirchen judo gym was able to prevail in a fascinating competition last Sunday. According to the club, it should be as exciting as in a crime thriller. It was a successful weekend for the youngsters of the Judogym. The day before, the teams U8, U10 and U12 were able to record some victories at the district randori in Straßwalchen.
U14 Mixed Team Championship
On Sunday, November 13th, the U14 mixed team state championship in judo took place in Straßwalchen. Ten teams competed for the championship title. Among them were the Judo Union Pinzgau, PSV Salzburg, ESV Sanjindo Bischofshofen, the Judo Union Hallein-Golling, the Bürmoos/Sakura competition community and the Judogym Seekirchen-Salzburg.
Heated competition
Already in the preliminary rounds, the U14 team of the Judogym Seekirchen-Salzburg emerged as one of the favourites. In the semifinals things got really exciting. Here the Judogym and the Pinzgauer faced each other. The whole thing should have been as exciting as a thriller. After a 4:4 draw, three playoffs were fought to determine a winner. Here the judo gymnastics team prevailed with a 2:1 victory.
In the nerve-wracking final, the judo gym and the Bürmoos/Sakura competition community faced each other. In the end, the young judoka from Salzburg, Seekirchen and Rif were able to prevail with a 5:3 and win the state championship title.
Club and coach are proud
The club Judogym Salzburg-Seekirchen happily congratulated its successful youth team and the reserve fighters on their victory. They also thanked their families for their loud support.
The coach of the U14, Manfred Gerhart, was very proud.
“Our judo gymnastics team fought brilliantly and gave everything. The hard training paid off and the team won the national championship title. This was not to be expected at the beginning of the year, when there were numerous training cancellations and we had to fight hard with the Corona challenges. That’s why I’m even happier with the performance shown by the entire team!”
