Salzburg’s historical places: Mysterious Leopoldskron Palace
Leopoldskron Palace is world famous and full of life. Nevertheless, there are still places of retreat, not just for animals.
SALZBURG. Everyone in Salzburg knows Leopoldskron Palace on the pond of the same name in the Riedenburg district. But not really many Salzburgers have already visited the ensemble built in 1736 under the Salzburg Archbishop Leopold Anton Eleutherius Freiherr von Firmian.
In terms of culture and contemporary history, the castle is linked to the history of Salzburg and, above all, to the festival. It served as the residence of Max Reinhardt and has been the seat of the “Salzburg Global Seminar” for 75 years.

With its 55 rooms in the Meierhof, twelve suites in the castle and two “townhouses”, the historic Leopoldskron Palace has become a popular location for events of all kinds.

In the seven-hectare castle park there are not only old trees – there are also numerous birds cavorting at the adjacent pond.

The castle is privately owned by the “Salzburg Global Seminars”, an international non-profit organization that has set itself the task of
“Challenging today’s and future leaders to create a better world,” says manager Thomas Biebl.
