Free public transport to the slopes of “Snow Space Salzburg”
In the coming winter, travel to the Snow Space Salzburg ski area (Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann/Alpendorf) will be free of charge with public transport throughout the state of Salzburg. When you buy a ski or ski tour ticket online, you can book free arrival and departure at the same time. This is made possible by a cooperation between the ski area and the state of Salzburg and the Salzburger Verkehrsverbund (SVV). The campaign was presented at a press conference on Wednesday.
Also valid for long-distance transport
The campaign applies to all public transport throughout the state, including ÖBB long-distance trains in the Salzburg region. Those arriving by train can change to the ski bus at St. Johann train station, which takes ten minutes to get to the valley station. Since there are also four ski rental shops there, you can get to the ski area without a lot of luggage, according to Snow Space board member Wolfgang Hettegger.
Tourers are taken to the route on the Gernkogel by ski bus. He also referred to a study according to which a good two thirds of the CO2 emissions on a day of skiing are caused by the journey to and from the destination.
There was already a free daily ski bus from the state capital to Flachau. Around 3,500 skiers per season have used this in recent years. Hettegger expects a higher number for the new campaign in the first year.
