The OSCE presence supports the exchange of workshops in Slovenia for journalists covering parliamentary affairs in Albania
Eleven journalists covering parliamentary affairs from various media houses in Albania and the staff of the Communication Service of the Assembly of Albania traveled to Ljubljana from 27 to 29 October to exchange experiences with their Slovenian colleagues and learn from their best practices. The OSCE presence in Albania organized an exchange workshop with the aim of supporting journalists in improving the quality of their work and bringing parliament closer to citizens. Similar visits took place in North Macedonia in April and in Austria in September 2022.
In Slovenia, the participants visited the premises of the Parliament and met with the General Secretary and the head of the Department for Communication and Public Relations of the Parliament. Lively discussions focused on cooperation with the media, parliamentary reporting and institutional awareness of citizens through the media. Slovenian representatives answered questions about the functioning of the Slovenian Parliament, the work of parliamentary committees and their relationship with the media.
Albanian journalists also met with representatives of the Slovenian public channel dedicated to parliamentary affairs, the Association of Journalists of Slovenia, the Slovenian Press Agency, and learned about their activities, the media situation and media relations with the parliament, government and political entities in general.
At the end of the meetings, the Albanian journalists sat down at the table with the Albanian Assembly and OSCE presence staff to reflect on their exchanges of visits to all three parliaments. They suggested the organization of periodic meetings to keep them informed in detail about parliamentary affairs and called for continued attendance support.
The event was organized within the framework of the project “Support to Parliament and Civic Education in Albania”, which is supported by the OSCE in Albania and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
