2: 3 defeat in Cologne: Eisbären Berlin are already conceding their tenth defeat of the season
The Eisbären Berlin continue to stumble through the season in the German Ice Hockey League. The German champions narrowly lost to the Kölner Haie on Tuesday evening by 2:3 (2:2, 0:1, 0:0). It was already the tenth defeat in the 16th game. The Berliners remain in the table cellar.
The Berliners got into the game well: In front of 10,971 spectators, Marcel Noebels scored the lead in the first power play (8th minute). And the personnel situation also gave reason for hope: Yannick Veilleux and Marco Nowak were back after long injury breaks.
Andreas Thuresson equalized after a counterattack for the hosts (10′), but the polar bears immediately hit back – and that’s strange: Cologne goalie Mirko Pantkowski steered a deep puck from Bennet Roßmy into his own goal (15′). In the first third break, however, the Berliners could not take the lead, because Maximilian Kammerer was twice the advantage for the Rhineland hosts (17th).
After the restart, the capitals increased the pressure, but missed a few good chances. The hosts then got back into the game better in the course of the second third and scored their third goal. Nicholas Bailen took advantage of a lack of attention from the Berlin back line (39′). In the final section, the polar bears found no more resources against the clever and robust defenders of Cologne.
