Ukrainian refugees in Norway do not want to go home – Oslo Met researcher surprised – Document
Only one in four Ukrainians will go home even if the war ends.
Most of the 70,000 Ukrainian refugees who are expected here this year and next year will remain in Norway.
A report on Ukrainian refugees in Norway shows this, writes Aftenposten.
Researchers from the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (NIBR) came to the following conclusion after a survey of almost 700 Ukrainian refugees:
* Only 26 percent wanted to return to Ukraine as soon as the war is over. Two out of ten had already decided to stay in Norway, while over half were unsure.
* Only 3 percent would return if they had to live in a different part of Ukraine than their place of origin. 66 percent would rather stay in Norway.
* Even if the place of origin were to become safe, only 11 percent would move back before the war is over throughout Ukraine.
Until now in 2022, there have been 31,000 applications for asylum from Ukrainian citizens in Norway, and if the war continues, UDI expects that there will be at least 30,000 new ones.
NIBR researcher at Oslo Met, Vilde Hernes, could not understand this and was shocked.
– I have to admit that I ran and knocked on the door of my colleagues when we got these answers in the survey, she says.
