Materials of the future – University of Innsbruck
Last week, Oliver Strube, university professor for chemical engineering and materials process technology, introduced himself to the university public in his inaugural lecture. Strube holds an endowed professorship at ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik and works on bio-inspired materials and their technical applications.
Oliver Strube has been the owner of von der since the beginning of 2021 ADLER factory paint factory endowed professorship for chemical engineering and materials process technology. With him, teaching and research were expanded to include a future-oriented subject area at the interface between technical chemistry, coating technology and materials science. Rector Tilmann Märk thanked the founders, represented by Managing Director Andrea Berghofer and R&D Manager Albert Rössler, for their support, which represents another milestone in the expansion of a future-oriented teaching and research area. Albert Rössler briefly explained the company’s motivation for this joint project and expressed his delight at the planned cooperation. Dean Hubert Huppertz recalled the development of the new department, from the initial ideas and concepts to the establishment of the Institute of Chemical Engineering, where the endowed professorship of the state of Tyrol for thermal process engineering is located, which is occupied by institute director Kai Langenbach. In his entertaining lecture, Oliver Strube then gave the large audience an insight into the development of bio-inspired materials and their applications.
To person
Oliver Strube accelerated chemistry at the Technical University of Clausthal and received his doctorate there in 2011. He then researched and taught at the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld and at the University of Paderborn, where from 2014 until his appointment to the University of Innsbruck he led the research group “Biobased & Bio-Inspired Materials”. In 2020, Strube habilitated in technical chemistry and chemical process engineering. Since January 2021 he has been a university professor for chemical engineering and materials process technology at the University of Innsbruck. His active focus is on the linking of bio-inspired materials and their technical applications. The individual topics are broad and range from modules or intelligent coatings to fiber composites, medical technology and nanomaterials to the development of new application processes.
