Protest action against the Iranian regime
politics
Numerous people demonstrated against the regime in Iran in Innsbruck on Saturday. The international protests are not only a call for more women’s rights, but are increasingly directed against the entire fundamental Islamic system. This is also the case in Innsbruck.
In Iran itself, the protests are becoming more and more offensive, and they have been supported by many around the world for weeks. According to the police, around 550 people also took part in the demonstration against the regime in Iran in Innsbruck.
The organizers, a circle around a boxing trainer who has lived in Tyrol for many years, want to “raise the voice for the women, children and students, actually for the entire population.” They will protest until the regime abdicates. Demonstrations are what you can contribute to abroad. In Iran too many have already died for raising their voices. They wanted to remain anonymous for fear of possible reprisals.
SPÖ politicians in solidarity with women in Iran
SPÖ member of parliament and Tyrolean women’s chairwoman Selma Yildirim emphasized the value of women’s right to self-determination and that “women can lead a free life, a life free of violence. The images from Iran that have accompanied us for a few weeks are so shocking that I am not indifferent and I would like to express my solidarity here.”
Patriarchal system also in Tyrol
The SPÖ Councilor for Women’s Affairs, Eva Pawlata (SPÖ), also took part in the protest action against oppression and discrimination, against torture, violence and for women’s rights in Iran. “It is my great wish to make it clear what the structures are like in Tyrol. And women also suffer a lot from a patriarchal system, even if not to this extent.”
The demonstration march through Innsbruck’s city center ends with a rally on Maria-Theresien-Strasse.
