EC Red Bull Salzburg will play the away game of the win2day ICE Hockey League against EC-KAC next Sunday, December 30th (4:30 p.m., live ice hockey). The Red Bulls are making their first guest appearance in the unexpected Heidi Horten Arena, the converted and modernized home of the Klagenfurt ice hockey club.
“I’m excited about the new players’ benches, the old ones were very narrow,” said Salzburg’s head coach Matt McIlvane with a wink when asked what awaited the Red Bulls in the new Klagenfurt ice arena. But then he seriously follows: “I’m sure the new arena is a very special place. Every time we play against this team it’s a special game and we expect it to be the same this time.”
The Red Bulls are looking forward to the new arena and also have a score to settle with KAC, which is why they were beaten 4-6 in the first meeting of the season in Salzburg in early October. Dominique Heinrich is also very happy, who is making his comeback on Sunday after a three-week injury break.
“I’m happy to be able to help the team again. It’s not fun to watch,” said the defender after training today. When the defender returns to action, it’s straight to the ‘hit’ against KAC. “Games against Klagenfurt are always intense and that’s how it should be. We certainly didn’t play our best game when we lost. We want to do better on Sunday in Klagenfurt.”
The Red Bulls have recently won three times in a row and want to continue the series at KAC. “We’re still not complete, but we’re in good spirits. We’ve shown in the last few games that we can play well even with a younger lineup. In any case, we expect another tough and competitive game against KAC.”
A word more about the new Heidi Horten Arena, which is two meters narrower: “Yes, we are looking forward to the new hall, it will definitely be an experience. The smaller ice surface is a small implementation, but at the World Championships in Finland we also played on smaller ice, so we already know that.”
KAC lost their first game in the new hall against Linz a week ago, but then celebrated their first home win against Villach in the Carinthia derby two days ago. Tonight Hydro Fehérvár AV19 is a guest in Klagenfurt, the Red Bulls have no game.
With Dominique Heinrich, a seasoned defender is also coming back to the Red Bulls. Only the convalescents Lukas Schreier, Ty Loney, Thomas Raffl and Troy Bourke are missing.
