Timor-Leste’s PR starts Saturday visit to Portugal and will address the situation of immigrants
According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic of Timor-Leste, a visit followed the invitation made by the Portuguese President of the Republic and with which José Ramos-Horta intends to reciprocate the presence of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at his investiture and during the national celebrations on the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Timor-Leste’s independence in May.
In this first State visit to the European continent, the Head of State of Timor-Leste intends to “address the dramatic situation of particular vulnerability in which young Timorese newly arrived in Portugal find themselves”.
“I appeal to my compatriots to inform the authorities about the conditions for their travel, only to Portugal with any other non-foreign country”, said José Ramos-Horta, before his departure to Portugal, quoted in the note.

On the sidelines of the official meetings, the head of state will participate in a formal session with the ambassadors of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and in a round table by the g7+.
Ramos-Horta’s agenda includes his participation in a business event where he presents representatives of Timorese Portugal, especially in the pharmaceutical, fashion, agriculture and footwear areas.

According to a statement from the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, José Ramos-Horta starts the program of the state visit on Monday, with the deposit of a wreath at the tomb of Luís de Camões, in the Jerónimos Monastery.
