Monday 31 October, at 9 pm, the Concordia Cinema in Borgo Maggiore is dressed in black and white with a cult film by the great Alfred Hitchcock restored by the Cineteca di Bologna: “Psycho” with Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh.
This restoration in 4K contains 13 second material cut by censorship after the initial release in sales.
Now you can see the film “Psychopath” as it was originally seen in theaters in 1960, just as he had thought and wanted it Alfred Hitchcock.
The masterpiece of the macabre sees Anthony Perkins as the haunted Norman Batestaxidermist and voyer, whose dark old house and adjacent motel aren’t the exact place to spend a quiet evening.
Nobody knows better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh)the unfortunate client, whose journey ends in the famous shower scene, 45 seconds of the most famous in the history of cinema.
A private investigator and the Marion’s sister (Vera Miles).
Hitchcock plays like a master with the expectations and emotions of the audience: the horror and suspense rise until finally the face of the mysterious killer is revealed.
“The idea, in ‘Psycho’, is that a slight deviation in human relationships (deviation of path, behavior, desire) is enough for them to lead to destruction. ‘Psycho’ reveals the chaos just below the smooth surface of civilization, the barbarism as always between us, within us ”. (Pietro von Bagh)
From a novel (1959) by Robert Bloch, adapted by Joseph Stefano, it is Hitchcock’s greatest public success, who declared: “I played directing viewers exactly like playing an organ”
More than a thriller, it is a shocker, which over time has become a cult film, and not only for the sequence of the shower of unprecedented violence. Example of pure cinema, of art for art. He had 4 Oscar nominations: direction, photography, best supporting actress, set design.
