Portugal and Cape Verde commit to cooperation in the area of housing
The protocol was signed in the afternoon by the Cape Verdean Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Territorial Planning, Eunice Silva, and by the Portuguese Secretary of State for Housing, Marina Gonçalves, on the first of two days of visit to the archipelago.
According to a Cape Verdean ministry, it is a protocol to continue the partnership with the Ministry of the Environment of Portugal, since 2017, which culminated in Portuguese cooperation and technical assistance in the implementation of various projects and programs in the archipelago.
However, he inferred that because of the new governance structure in Portugal, like all areas of structures by the Ministry that were under different Ministries, even with a previous action plan that covered these areas.
“And the importance of this proposal to the Government by the Embassy in Cape Verde, that it was necessary for us to make this separation, for a new importance to encompass all areas”, said Eunice Silva, underlining the importance of the Housing area for the country, which is to come out of a reform of the Imobiliária Fundiária e Habitat (IFH) and the creation of the General Directorate of Housing, which I outline with Portuguese technical support and assistance.
“We are going to implement the instruments created in this cooperation, now with the Ministry of Infrastructure, in the logic of continuity of continuity and in the execution that is being carried out over the last five years”, continued the minister, for whom it has been a “very good” cooperation over the last few years and with concrete results.
Among them lived technicians in São da Barragem of Programs of Families, that govern of rehousing in the Islands of Sal and Boa Vista, the projects of Equality of Tents in São Vicente, and “Cities as the Assistance and of several projects in the seafronts and of the urban centers.
Even with a division of areas in the Portuguese Government, the Secretary of State for Housing, Marina Gonçalves, emphasized a continuity in cooperation, in order to accompany a reform in the sector that is being carried out in Cape Verde.
“An important work that can be helped, can also help, and it is right to cooperate as well, which was done with this member of the housing”, he underlined with this Portuguese member, “many results in the area in this sector” the Cape Verdean archipelago.
Saturday, on the last day of Cape Verde, Marina Gonçalves, who is also part of the Ministry of Structures, will mark the inauguration of the construction and asphalting of a road in Ribeira dos Picos, in Santa Cruz, on the island of Santiago, in an act that will be chaired by the country’s prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.
“What we are going to do tomorrow is a verification in the field of work, once again, of continuity in cooperation, but above all development of the territory”, island.
Funded by the Government, in partnership with the World Bank, to the value of 386.5 million escudos (3.5 million euros), the road has a length of 7 kilometers, with the aim of unblocking the various locations along this road that is considered to be most productive stream in the country.
It is also intended to promote greater development of the local economy, namely agriculture, livestock, commerce and tourism, and create conditions for the best performance of products.
