A woman from Lucerne enchants the classical world with sung fairy tales
Regula Mühlemann was the star of the Salzburg Festival 2022 and is now showing her great skills on the recording “Fairy Tales”.
Regula Mühlemann
Fairytale Beauty in Summer was the (not quite) secret star of the Lucerne soprano Regula Mühlemann at the Salzburg Festival. And when she was recently allowed to present her new CD in the society magazine on SF1 – the only serious Swiss program with culture – she almost burst with pride when her role in the Salzburger «Magic Flute » came to talk. She also said that you can always move up.
The 36-year-old is still proceeding cautiously, carefully weighing up the choice between opera and concert (two in Aargau next week). When Mühlemann appears on the opera stage, it is well thought out: Gilda, a great Verdi role, will soon be singing her in Basel, where the audience does not immediately make the century comparison as in Vienna.
On the aforementioned CD, entitled «Fairy Tales», she presents arias and songs from the 19th century – Dvořák, Offenbach, Massenet and Adam – and adds works by Monteverdi, Purcell and Britten. A crystal-clear, glowing voice can be heard, which boasts touching softness and technical security. With the charm of the timbre, Mühlemann makes you forget the desire for more expression or even drama. Christian Berzin
