Protests against Fiaker continue: sharp criticism of the mayor of Salzburg | VGT
Street poll shows clear rejection of horse-drawn carriages, 23,000 sign petition
The people are sending a clear signal to the Salzburg city government and to the responsible Mayor Preuner, from whose office so far only snotty answers have been sent to the citizens who are concerned about the Fiacre horses and are calling for an end to this animal cruelty. Not only does the mayor want to extend the contract by another five years, despite all the protests and abuses, he doesn’t even want to take into account the unanimous municipal council decision for heat-free from 30 degrees and instead continues to insist on the previous 35 degrees. If that is Mr. Preuner’s understanding of democracy, then he is not suitable for his office. People are fed up with this cruelty to animals and animal suffering shouldn’t be the figurehead of the actually very beautiful city of Salzburg.

Salzburg – The ASSOCIATION AGAINST TIERFABRIKEN’s petition for an “end to the Fiaker in Salzburg” has been around for less than two years, and a remarkable 23,000 supporters have already been found who vehemently reject an extension of the contracts with the Fiaker, which is supposed to happen next May.
There are many reasons why, in the 21st century, reasonable flight animals such as horses are dying in the modern city. The hard asphalt, the heat in summer, the noise and the traffic, plus the disregard for the rest days for the horses, that Torturing at least one Fiaker horse with hot chili paste, using lame horses and driving on slippery pavement on which the horses slip and thus endanger animals and people. Over 23,000 people have signed for these and more reasons to demand a ban on this outdated “tradition” (to the petition).
The VEREIN AGAINST TIERFABRIKEN has also in the context of Video series “VGT asks” in the old town of Salzburg and asked passers-by for their opinion on the fiakers: VGT ASK.
The people interviewed appeal to Mayor Preuner to urgently reconsider his decision to empathize with the animals, not always just to look away, but to consider the moral aspects and to see that this art of tourist transport is no longer necessary and, above all, that Salzburg is beautiful enough without this cruelty to animals.
