Further information
The Nuremberg trials against the main war criminals in 1945/46 are considered the breakthrough of simultaneous interpreting in the form we know it today and the starting point for the professionalization of conference interpreting. The touring exhibition “One Process – Four Languages. The pioneers of simultaneous interpreting in Nuremberg” focuses on the biographies of these interpreters. This is the first time that this exhibition will be shown in Austria.
The extensive interdisciplinary supporting program offers the opportunity to learn more about the interpreters of that time, the Nuremberg trials against the major war criminals and the professional field of interpreting from different perspectives. There are 9 lectures in the historic reading room, thematically aimed at the general public. There are also 3 lectures at the Institute for Translation Studies (INTRAWI) that deal with the current challenges of conference interpreting. In their audiovisual translation class, INTRAWI students created multilingual subtitles for a film that was shown at the time to explain the unknown technique of interpreting. This film, including the subtitles, can also be seen in the exhibition. And finally, everyone who is interested is invited to 3 film evenings at INTRAWI.
