Grödig can solve Austria Salzburg’s stadium problem
With Red Bull Salzburg and the FC delivery there are two clubs in the top divisions and in the state of Salzburg as well as many Bundesliga-capable venues. If a club wants to go up, then there is no suitable stadium. There is no stadium in the city itself, the SAK 1914 blew off possible second division ambitions, Austria Salzburg needs a stadium for various reasons. As’Salzburg24‘ Now reported, various stones are now rolling. According to the statutes of the Austrian Football Association, only a maximum of two clubs can use a stadium together: Currently, in the Salzburg area, these are home club Grödig (regional league) and FC Liefering (2nd league).
Big as a solution?
There was a proposal to connect the stadium in Grödig (Flachgau) to the University and Olympic Center (ULSZ) Rif-Hallein (Tennengau). As S24 learned on Thursday, there have now also been talks. “We have had initial loose talks with the Salzburg municipality – above all with Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auinger – and as a municipality we are open to this if the stadium is to be used nationally,” confirmed Grödig’s Mayor Herbert Schober (independent) to the website. The plan: The former Bundesliga stadium should become the alternative site for the city clubs, including for Austria. Liefering could return to the RB Arena, then the stadium in Grödig would be “free”. “It’s about other clubs being able to use the fast stadium in Grödig, which is suitable for the Bundesliga,” emphasized Deputy Mayor and City Councilor for Sports Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ).
Sports Councilor Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP) also wants to use the existing infrastructure, any subsidies can also be imagined. The talks planned for November with all those involved will show how realistic an implementation of the considerations is.
