Wolves win Tyrol derby against Innsbruck – Südtirol News
Bruneck – Three days after the convincing away win in Ljubljana, the wolves want to do better today, with HC Tiwag Innsbruck a strong opponent is visiting the Intercable Arena. Unsurprisingly, Phil Horsky uses the same lines as on Sunday and Tomas Sholl started again in goal, Ivan Deluca still has to serve one game day of his ban. Daniel Leavens is absent from the Sharks.
The game starts off very well, the wolves are again very focused and play forward with a lot of momentum, the guests counter with their goal-oriented offensive ice hockey. There weren’t any great scoring chances early on, but Krogsgaard tested Sholl with a dangerous finish in the 10th minute and Archambault narrowly missed a sharp cross from Hannoun. The Wolves are now getting stronger, in the 12th minute Andergassen twice fails to save McCollum and two minutes later Luchuk rattles the goal frame. After a short shot, Dario Winkler hits the target with a bit of puck luck and uses this chance with a half-high shot to score the opening goal for the guests (14th min). However, the HCP is not deterred by this, after good opportunities for the fourth attacking formation and a great chance from Andergassen, the time has finally come in the 20th minute: Hannoun lets a cross pass from Luchuk to Archambault and he just needs the puck in to push an empty goal – 1:1 and with this position it is also the first time in the cabins.
The two teams don’t give each other up in the middle third either, the Haie always show a move towards goal and the Wolves 2.0 fight against it with great team spirit. In the 25th minute, after the Innsbruckers attacked, there was a tumult in front of Sholl’s goal, he was being harassed by several players on the ground and a lattner was able to calmly corner him and push the puck into the goal – 1:2. But again the HCP reacts immediately, Sanna gets a rebound and slams it from half right into the short cross corner – 2:2 and the debut goal for the Cortinese in the ICE HL! Now the hosts are really getting going, shortly afterwards the first power play, the puck is already running excellently like in the last game in Ljubljana and after a minute and a half you delay the shot from the central position and then score with a wonderful wrist hit under the crossbar the well-known leadership for the black and yellow. Now a gripping match is developing, the guests are vehemently pushing for an equalizer, after Bourque hits the post, Ege has to save on the line, but the HCP doesn’t hide and comes to his next power play a short time later. This time, too, the disc circulates excellently and Catenacci increases to 4:2 for the wolves with a seamless wrist shot. But that’s not all, less than 40 seconds later Berger deflected a shot from Glira into McCollum’s goal to make it 5-2 for the home side. Unnerved, he leaves the Haie’s box and is replaced by Renè Swette.
At the beginning of the final third, the wolves are allowed to act with the majority again and we already know the story: the puck runs like clockwork and after less than half a minute Luchuk pulls from the blue line and the puck hits the Haie’s box for the sixth time . Now there is no holding back the black and yellow, in the 48th minute Kristensen is fouled in front of the opposing goal and in the same offensive action deflects the puck into the goal with his leg to make it 7:2. A good three minutes before the final siren, the highlight of the evening: after a dream combination on the third line, Glira scored 8:2. Innsbruck is still trying to improve the result shortly before the end thanks to Muigg, but the well-deserved victory remains for a convincing HCP as a team, who is therefore well prepared for the next tasks!
The English week continues with the big derby on Friday at 7:45 p.m. in the Sparkassen Arena in Bozen, followed by the next home match on Sunday at 6 p.m., with a second leg against the Drachen from Ljubljana. An exciting ice hockey week is guaranteed!
