Volkswagen ID.5 in Portugal and we have already driven it (soon). all prices
It was known a year ago, but only now Volkswagen ID.5, the first electric «SUV-Coupé» of the German brand, arrives in Portugal, months later than expected. A delay justified by the many disturbances that have products such as automotive industry supply delivery.
With its arrival, four electric vehicles from the Wolfsburg brand will be based on the MEB (platform dedicated to electric models) for sale in our country, after the ID.3 to have premiered in 2020. This was followed by ID.4 in 2021 and this year in addition to ID.5, the I WOULD. Buzz.
In 2023 it will be once from ID.7 — the production version of the ID. air — and outside Portugal and Europe there is still the ID.6an electric SUV larger than the seven-seat ID.4 sold in China.

There are three versions of the new ID.5 on sale in Portugal: Pro, Pro Performance and GTX. Here, the ID.5 GTX (red) and the ID.5 Pro Performance are reserved for shooting by the Tagus.
More dynamic lines, but with space to «give and sell»
The ID.5 is an image-oriented SUV, courtesy of its slimmer silhouette height — the space is the same as the ID.4 — but the curiously versatile attributes we recognize from other Volkswagen base MEB models are present.
That’s what I could see during the national presentation of the model that took place in Encarnação, more or less halfway between Ericeira and Santa Cruz. S in the second row of the ID.5, the space is ample in all its benches, even in height, despite the very arched roof line.

The brand advertises 974mm of headroom position for second-row occupants at a height, the second-mm seats are positioned 72mm lower than the first-row seats (61mm vs 687mm). Thus, the legs are a little higher than ideal, due to the height of the floor that accommodates the batteries.
The ID.5’s luggage capacity is also comparable to that of the ID.4, with 549 l (against 543 l) and the seats fold 40/60. That is, despite its more dynamic appearance, the ID.5 does not compromise longer trips with the family, with all the «stuff back.

Up to 536 km of autonomy
As three versions of the Volkswagen ID.5 available in Portugal use the same 77 kWh battery (82 kWh of total capacity), which allows for a range of up to 536 km.
A higher reference value, justified by the similar ID.4, justified by the superior aerodynamic performance of the ID.5: its roof allows to reduce the Cx (drag coefficient) to 0.26, better than ID.4’s 0.28.

The roof line gives the ID.5 an aerodynamic advantage over the “sister” ID.4.
The national range is divided into Pro, Pro Performance and GTX versions. While the first two mounted only have an electric motor on the trailer axle (rear-wheel drive), the ID.5 GTX get an electric motor at the front, thus being the only ID.5 for sale in Portugal with four-wheel drive.
- ID.5 Pro — 128 kW (174 hp) and 235 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 10.4s, 160 km/h speed. max., 536 km of autonomy;
- ID.5 Pro Performance — 150 kW (204 hp) and 310 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 8.4s, 160 km/h speed. max., 536 km of autonomy;
- ID.5 GTX — 220 kW (299 hp) and 460 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 6.3s, 180 km/h speed. max., 512 km of autonomy;
ID.5 also hits the market with the latest version of Software from Volkswagen (3.1), which allows the most depressant battery, with charging powers up to 135 kW (direct current) and adds the Plug & Charge functionality. With alternating current, the charging power is 11 kW.

During the national presentation of the new Volkswagen ID.5 there was the opportunity for the first, but very brief, contact. didn’t owe it at all the next few days, — stays for an upcoming test for a few days and until all the next. But given the proximity to the brother» ID.4, the experience between the models turns out to be the transition.

ID.5 GTX is the only four wheel drive. The other ID.5’s are rear-wheel drive.
In both configurations, a good driving position can be easily adjusted — to ample settings for both the seat and the steering wheel — driving is always easy and accessible. Positive note for the maneuverability of the «SUV-Coupé» which, despite its large size, has a very tight turning radius.
Less positive is the rear visibility of the ID.5, with a small glass and bisected by the spoiler to see.
In progress, the refinement on board is acoustic, a lot can be done for the excellent acoustic insulation — despite the 19″ wheels, the rolling noise is high and minimal at vertical steps —, such as the robust assembly that avoids the presence of parasitic noise.

ID.5 interior is designed to that of ID.4. The Pro Performance version gains additional coatings that enhance the interior’s pleasantness.
However, if it is a convenience assembly, the same cannot be said for the materials used, which have no ID. electric technology elevator, is difficult to accept in a vehicle whose price starts «north» of 50 thousand euros.

The route didn’t do much to verify things that look like ID. something that is «fixed» when we select Sport mode.

In the few opportunities it gave to “taste the foot”, the electrical response of more than 2100 kg turns out to be much more positive than the numbers on the sheet would guess — only 128 kW (174 hp) of power and 0 to 100 km/h. h made in a modest 10.4s. The response is always immediate and without hesitation, typical characteristics of electric vehicles, which greatly help in the pleasantness and ease of driving the ID.5.
Those who want more performance can find it in the ID.5 Pro Performance (150 kW or 204 hp) and in the most powerful of them all, the ID.5 GTX, with around 300 hp. A proposal that already had the opportunity of some, whose driving intentions were given by the Diogo Teixeirain video:
Lots of technology on board
The brevity of this contact cannot, however, experience some technologies that the new Volkswagen ID.5 brings.
There are still (many) rough edges in usability regarding the infotainment system and interaction with the interior of ID.5 in general — something that Volkswagen is already working on — but it can be equipped with interesting technological features such as Park Assist Plus (parking assistant, optional equipment) with memory function, exclusive to Volkswagen.
This memorization of five parking manoeuvres, where the driver manually performs a maneuver once, recording the procedure and, the next time, the ID.5 can repeat it exactly, allows the same steps autonomously.
The memory can be used in parking maneuvers that are not more than 50 km away at speeds of less than 40 km.

Other technological highlights include the use of Travel Assist (semi-autonomous driving) using data swarm (exam). That is, with the anonymized data of other Volkswagens (equivalent to identification data from markings on road signs to road signs) and send to mapping information the a cloud (a cloud). This information is processed and forwarded to other Volkswagens with this technology.

How much?
The Volkswagen ID.5 is now available to order in Portugal — delivery times can be extended by 6-7 months, depending on the brand — and, as we have already mentioned, in three versions: Pro, Pro Performance and GTX.

The German brand has already reported a sale of 250 units, with 150 of them corresponding to the special launch version First Edition, however sold out.
A curious fact is that 90% to 95% of ID.5 First Edition sales are made by companies, thinking of individual names or small companies — taking advantage of the real electric benefits existing for the vehicles they acquire, reflecting the reality of the national market.
Volkswagen also said that it also registered a high interest on the part of the inspectors, but an (almost) absence of incentives or incentives for this group ends up benefiting, predictably, deterring them.
As for the boot versions now available in Portugal, prices at 51,532 euros for the ID.5 Pro:
