Heiligwasser lift in Igls: Municipal council secures evening skiing for clubs and children
The planned savings measure of the “evening skiing” of the Heiligwasser lift on the Patscherkofel caused discussions. The savings measure would have yielded around 11,000 euros. Not only ski clubs resisted the planned break. An urgent application to maintain evening skiing at the Heiligwasser lift was accepted by the municipal council.
INNSBRUCK. Due to the energy crisis, the Patscherkofelbahn supervisory board with managing director Adrian Egger recommended that night skiing on the 356.24 m long Heiligwasser lift should be avoided. The city of Innsbruck will comply with this recommendation. The Heiligwasser lift was put into operation as a tow lift in 2007. Difference in altitude 115 m, height of mountain station 1,125 m, transport capacity 1,200 people/hour, travel time approx. 2 minutes. Both an easy and a moderately difficult practice slope run from the mountain station back to the valley station. The waiver on Tuesday and Thursday between 4 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. should bring around 11,000 euros.

The energy saving proposal sparked discussions and a political exchange of blows. In the municipal council, GR Gerald Depaoli made an urgent request for the continuation of evening skiing. Various arguments for and against were put forward in the discussion. GR Gerald Depaoli: “What’s the saving? 11,000 euros for the entire season, including staff costs, (5,500 euros in energy savings that means).” GR Irene Heisz: “All amateur sports clubs train up there, they only have time in the late afternoon or evening. Agree with the application.”
Vice Mayor Markus Lassenberger: “You could also save on street lighting, but not switch it off completely. 12,000 euros are not succinct, but they are very well spent. Agree with the application.”
GR Mesut Onay: “During the Corona period, it was an ad hoc decision to close playgrounds like Corona.”
Vice Mayor Johannes Anzengruber: “The clubs have to start there, it’s not about the public run. They train between 5 and 7 p.m. Yes, save energy, but not at the expense of the children.”
GR Andreas Wanker: “Taking up the idea, wrong approach to saving energy for young people and children. There was already a lack of exercise during Corona. Normality must be guaranteed.”
Mayor Georg Willi: “Patscherkofelbahn has suggested a bundle, including this other one. We have already switched the street lighting to save energy. Christmas lights only until 11 p.m. Is the offer important for children, yes or no? Does it have to be at night?”
GR Dagmar Klingler-Newessely: “One should be careful with austerity measures as a city that must maintain leisure facilities – of course also for children.” GR Christoph Kaufmann: “One should leave the church in the village. Floodlights have already been switched to LEDs. Will approve the application.” Vote: Greens abstain, Adopted unanimously.

The application of the city senate: “Patscherkofelbahn Infrastructure GmbH, investment subsidy for the additional costs of the parking space extension WEST at the new Patscherkofelbahn valley station, unscheduled use of funds” was accepted. Of GR Mesut Onay attention is drawn to the additional costs due to the construction of the new Patscherkofelbahn. GR Stefan Gleinser thinks that the local mountain was assigned to the municipal council and now you just have to make these decisions. Important point: implement the toboggan run as soon as possible.
