Tax on already excessive profits (including in Portugal is for: “in the coming months”
Minister of the Presidency stresses again that the Government supports the measure
Mariana Vieira da Silva was this Monday confronted on CNN Portugal with the extraordinary profit of 608 million euros from Galp, at a time when there is a huge energy crisis that affects families. The possibility of applying on these same rates has not been recognized either, but also only in applying at the level of the European Union. Asked about the Government’s position, the Minister of the Presidency referred to the European Commission.
“There is, at the moment, a debate to be carried out at European level on the creation of a tax. Portugal said, from the beginning, that it wanted the measure and that it would apply it. Our approval is also that it can be approved in the next months, as soon as this European deal is closed.”
On the other hand, the minister says that the Government has alternative measures underway. As a generality of the measures that we have at the moment and that you all are important, especially with the very significant number of people who stand out for the regulated market – whether in the field or in electricity -, these are measures that are financed precisely with the results of these, including Galp but not only.
‘Have we spoken now and kept silent forever?’ It’s precisely the opposite”
Certainty, stability and predictability: these were the words most used by Mariana Vieira da Silva with regard to the social concertation agreement. “Each one of the officials, once these diplomas are approved, can know what awaits them this year, the year following the years throughout the legislature”, also saying that there were never any public restrictions, next .
The Minister of the Presidency assured that, in the next four years, no civil servant “will have an increase of less than 208 euros” and, in many cases, depending on career changes, “they will have a much higher increase”.
The Government is working on a scenario where inflation is 4% but could be much higher. Asked if the executive will readjust this agreement according to the value of inflation, Mariana Vieira da Silva was peremptory.
“Obviously, it’s part of the agreement that the Government has made – if the environment is very different from what we’re working with, it’s usually reviewed. ‘. It’s just the opposite.”
However, this agreement does not please everyone. The CGTP has said several times that it is against it. Even so, demonstrations, strikes and social protest do not concern the Government. After all, “the agreement is with the conditions for the objective of being able to be socially safe with our path of knots not differentiated from the Civil Service accounts, it is itself defended.
