It seemed that migrants were already bypassing Slovakia. Hostels were once again established at the station
For a few days, it looked like the migrants either stopped walking or found another way to get to Western Europe. They were rarely seen in the border area and the stations were also empty. Over the weekend, however, the situation changed.
There is a dormitory again in the waiting room at the train station in Kúty. The raised wooden platform serves as an insulator. There are not a few men at the time of our arrival. They even had a tent set up in one corner.
Nobody knew English. But they have mobile phones, so they answer our questions using a translator. There may be around 25 of them at the station at this time. They are very much in need of blankets.
Volunteers from the local parish have been helping migrants for some time. In the previous wave, they brought basic necessities, sleeping bags and blankets. After the station was empty for a while, they were taken to be washed.
Similarly in Holíč
The situation is similar at the railway station in Holíč. We came to look at the waiting room for passengers. At first we were surrounded by cigarette smoke. But the migrants were willing to talk to us, one of them also knew English.
“The Czech police caught us on the train, took our fingerprints, registered us and then, after three hours, sent us back to Slovakia. We are at the station, we are sleeping here, it is cold outside. I need to move on,” he described.
Czechs return migrants to us, but no one takes them here anymore, so they wander around the border.
“After the negotiations of the Ministry of the Interior of both Slovakia and the Czech Republic in the past few days in Luxembourg, the competent experts for their areas of both departments will specify in detail so that the cooperation in the processes is correct,” said the spokeswoman of the Ministry of the Interior Zuzana Eliášová.
