Nick Kyrgios withdraws from the Paris Masters.
Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the Paris Masters.
Kyrgios, 27, was due to make his Bercy debut this year. Unfortunately, we won’t see Kyrgios for the first time at the last Masters of the year.
Following Kyrgios’ withdrawal, a place in the Paris main draw has become available for Sebastian Korda. Since the US Open, Kyrgios has only participated in one tournament.
In early October, Kyrgios reached the quarter-finals in Tokyo before a knee injury forced him to give Taylor Fritz a chance.
By withdrawing from Paris, Kyrgios lost his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals. However, he could still make it to the ATP Finals as he and Thanasi Kokkinakis would likely become the part of players who qualify for the prestigious season-ending tournament.
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis are currently the seventh ranked duo on the Race to Turin list.
Kyrgios hinted at an early retirement last weekend.
Last weekend, Kyrgios hosted a Q&A on Instagram.
Responding to a question, Kyrgios offered that he doesn’t plan to play tennis after 30 – meaning he could very easily walk away from the sport in the next three years.
“Honestly, I’m probably not going to (play after 30). I want to be able to live comfortably. I’m probably going to go to my house in the Bahamas and settle there and do nothing,” Kyrgios replied to a fan during an Instagram Q&A session.
This season Kyrgios has played the tennis of his life. Kyrgios’ season started off on a high as he and Kokkinakis elicited the Australian Open men’s doubles title. After winning a Grand Slam doubles title, Kyrgios reached his first Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon.
In the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios played very well against Novak Djokovic, but the Serb got away with a victory in four sets. Even if Kyrgios doesn’t play any tournaments by the end of the year, it will be a great season for him.
