Le téléphérique cherche son chemin à Bordeaux : de nouveaux tracés sont à l’étude

Whereas the Métropole relaunched the metro project in Bordeaux in September 2022, we would almost forget that its president Alain Anziani had announced the commissioning of a cable car to connect the two sides of the city to thehorizon 2026.
So where is this project, it looks like a alternative to the tram, during a back-to-school press conference in 2020? Since then, he has returned regularly to the mat without significant progress. Whether ! At the beginning of the year, six route scenarios have been proposed. They were to be submitted to the inhabitants during a great public consultation.
Directed public consultation
What did she give? Scheduled for spring 2022, it has been postponed for a semester. Normally it should start November 28 and in the meantime, three new routes have been added to the existing proposals. They are the result of exchanges between companies, in particular the shipbuilder CNB, and the Metropolis.
In fact, the site of Bordeaux shipbuilding – in the same way as the site of Wines & Spirits Marie Brizard – is flown over by the cable car on the six routes examined so far by the Metropolis and that does not really delight its general manager.
“As a local player, who hires a thousand people at our Bordeaux site, we are fully aware of mobility issues and are in favor of eco-mobility, begins Clément Himily. But the challenge is to succeed in reconciling this cable car project with the specificity of our site. »
The director of CNB fears an embarrassing vis-à-vis
For the general manager, the overflight of the site by a cable car threatens the activities of his company: “We are industrialists. We invest a lot to be competitive. For it, on must protect our innovations. With an overview of the site, we expose our processes and our novelties. »
Also, the luxury catamaran builder is keen to respect the confidentiality of its prestigious clients. With a quayside site, they can take possession of their new boat from Bordeaux. “It helps develop the most positive customer experience possible,” he insists. Implied: it must not be eroded by a unfortunate towards.
When you invest 10 million euros a year and create jobs, you are more easily heard. Results : three new tracks have been added since the project led by the Metropolis. Nothing revolutionary. The departure and arrival locations remain the same. It’s in the middle that things change, with the Lissandre district which is avoided – there where an intermediate station was sensitive in all the previous routes – in order to develop the industrial sites.
The intermediate station threatened?
Then, concerning these three new routes, they all share the Achard station tram stop like almost all the scenarios (except one which starts from the Chaban-Delmas bridge). The only variable concerns the point of arrival: Rocher de Palmer, the Buttinière exchange hub or the Quatre Pavillons shopping centre.
If the companies have therefore had the way in the chapter, it remains to be seen now what the inhabitants will say. In particular on the creation or not of an intermediate station on the right bank, on the banks of the Garonne.
Public consultation – coming soon on the Bordeaux Métropole site – start on November 28 and extend over two and a half months for a report, then a report expected in the spring of 2023.
