Bosch bets on the eBike business in Portugal – Hipersuper
Bosch is bringing an eBikes business area to Portugal, with the Braga and Ovar units taking a leading role in the development and production of these technologies within the Group.
For Bosch as eBikes, eBikes play a central role in the time mobility of means of transport further into the future, and therefore they are a strategic business for the company.
This investment in projects and Bikes planned for Portugal reinforces the Group’s commitment to, with more jobs, reinforcement of R&D teams, new production lines, and consequent impact on business volume in Braga and Ovar, which is expected to grow over the next few years.
In the case of the Bosch unit in Ovar, the creation of a team for the eBikes project translates into an investment of 6.5 million euros and the recruitment of around operations, 30 new employees for the technical and engineering areas, and more than 20 specialized profiles for R&D.
This Bosch unit will be responsible for the development, industrialization and production of Connect Devices for eBikes, namely displays and remote controls, solutions responsible for managing and controlling the equipment.
In addition, Ovar’s team is also responsible for carrying out various assembly and precision control processes.
“This new business area at Bosch in Ovar allows us to further consolidate our important portfolio diversification, increase our skills and learning, and also create an area that is strategic for Bosch’s business globally” , says António Pereira, administrator of Bosch Ovar.
To meet the needs of the team’s growth, Bosch is recruiting to Ovar different profiles for areas such as engineering and software development, engineering, mechanical engineering, UX/UI Design, others.
The business perspective of this project at the Ovar unit is for growth, with a planned turnover of 40 million euros in 2023, which should double in the following years.
Also at the Bosch unit in Braga, the eBikes business has been gaining more and more dimension. As management equipment, they are currently working on the development and production of the drive unit, sensors, battery electronics (BMS – Battery Management Systems) and components for eBikes, in a multidisciplinary work that has the contributor, for example, of the mechanics and software, which communicate and discuss solutions so that the final product respects the quality parameters and all the reliability required in these equipments.

In terms of production, it is expected that by 2026, eight production lines dedicated to the production of components for eBikes will arrive at the Braga factory.
The result is the need to increase the teams, with 64 new employees, but also a growing weight that this project will have in this unit’s turnover, and which next year is expected to reach 30 million euros.

The impact of Bosch’s commitment to the eBikes business area in Portugal is also felt in the Lisbon location, where the company created an area for technical support, after-sales services and marketing.
