Tikhanovskaya scares Lukasheno with return
Belarus opened criminal cases and is suing opposition leaders, in particular the president of the country Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Pavel Latushko. About it reported Politico.
The Investigative Committee of Belarus accused Tikhanovskaya and the opposition, in particular, of organizing mass conflicts, inciting social discord, conspiring with other goals to seize power and create extremist organizations.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who defeated Alexander Lukashenko in the presidential elections in 2020, after the massive fraud that followed and mass protests was forced to flee Belarus due to the brutal crackdown on the opposition backed by the Kremlin.
As the politician herself noted, now 10 criminal cases have been opened against her in Belarus, and eight against Latushka.
The opposition speaker called the lawsuit “outrageous.”
“They then imprisoned her husband, the descendants left the country. Now they are incriminating completely random cases. It’s clearly a personal revenge, but it’s also the beginning of her power. The regime – and Lukashenka personally – are scared that this woman will return their asses“, the speaker said.
This month, Tikhanovskaya traveled to Brussels to meet with EU leaders and the founder of the permanent mission – the Joint Transitional Cabinet – as part of the legitimization of her future decision as an alternative to long-term dictator Lukashenko.
In the same time Ukraine says it won’t recognize Belarus’ “Joint Transitional Cabinet” in the beginning with the rise of opposition to Svetla Tikhanovskaya due to doubts about her political position.
The Verkhovna Rada plans to vote on a resolution recognition of Belarus as temporarily occupied by Russia.
In December 2021, a Belarusian court spoke with Tikhanovskaya’s husband, Sergei, to 18 years in prison for inciting freedom and freedom of action. The video blogger was detained by the president in May 2020, when he was ready to run against Lukashenka – it was after his detention in the elections that Tikhanovskaya ran instead of him.
