Miscellaneous – Justice | Avignon-Cavaillon: employees at Pôle Emploi, they embezzle 120,000 euros
Two employees of Pôle Emploi will appear for aggravated fraud before the criminal court of Avignon, next April. The couple, residing in Pernes and employees in the agencies of Avignon and Cavaillon, set up a small business which, for months, brought them big. The two agents who had access to the system created fictitious beneficiary accounts in order to collect allocations for their benefit.
To take advantage of these benefits, the couple, he 57 years old, she, 38 years old, had called on four of their relatives. The latter provided their bank details to which Pôle Emploi paid unemployment benefits each month. In return for these undue sums, their relatives were paid. The scam would have started in the course of 2021 and was only brought to light a few weeks ago by Pôle Emploi.
Immediately, the case was assigned by the Avignon prosecutor’s office to the Avignon PJ. The experts of the financial brigade went to poke their noses into the accounts of these false beneficiaries and quickly brought to light the deception. In total, the couple would have embezzled no less than 120,000€ in the space of a year.
Under judicial control
Arrested at their Pernois home earlier this week, the couple was placed in police custody and then referred for an indictment before the investigating judge on Wednesday afternoon. After their interrogation, the two suspects were released under judicial supervision pending their trial. Their relatives will also be summoned to court.
In fact, Pôle Emploi had already dismissed these two employees under private law several weeks ago for serious misconduct. For the record, the two alleged crooks receive unemployment benefits (the real ones this time) while waiting to find a job and explain themselves to justice in 2023…
