MALTA, NY — County, state and city officials joined Stewart’s Shops employees Friday morning to celebrate the opening of Stewart’s newest location, Shop #136 at 2467 Route 9.
A ribbon cutting was held to mark the occasion, and the celebration continued all day with special offers and freebies including 10¢ off per gallon on gas, free one scoop ice cream, hot 99¢ dogs, and photo opportunities with Flavor, the company’s company. mascot cow. Stewart’s Shops also celebrated by giving back to the community, presenting a $1,500 check to Wellspring in honor of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Wellspring is a local non-profit organization that provides support and services to victims of domestic violence. Like Stewart’s, they have their headquarters in Malta.
The new Malta store was full of praise and congratulations from Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, Senator James Tedisco, Malta City Comptroller Mark Hammond, and representatives of the County Chamber of Saratoga. Store manager Bill Mach received congratulatory citations from Woerner and Tedisco.
“It’s always a great day for award-winning milk and ice cream, good hot dogs, pizza, breakfast, whatever you want,” Tedisco said. “Stewart’s is creating jobs and ownership. What a plan, what a concept.”
“I’m excited to have another Stewart’s in the neighborhood,” remarked Woerner. “It’s an amazing company and we’re so fortunate to have you in the region.”
The new store is part of the company’s ongoing expansion plan, which includes the completion of another 17 new stores in 2023. Nine will be rebuilds and eight will be new stores in the market.
Mach, who has been with Stewart’s Shops for nine and a half years, says he is looking forward to bringing great customer service to Shop #136.
“I’m big on customer service,” he said. “I really like working at Stewart’s. I really appreciate that the employees own more than 40% of the company. What I enjoy most, however, are the interactions with my clients. I make a lot of new friends this way. In this new shop, I will definitely meet many new faces.”
Shop #136 is a welcome expansion into the community. One could easily argue that the company itself is one of Malta’s crown jewels. With its main corporate building further down the road on Route 9, Stewart’s Shops is the oldest company headquartered in Malta. Over the years the city has seen a high level of commitment to growth and investment from the company, something that Malta is forever grateful for.
“Who doesn’t love Stewart’s Shops?” asked Hammond. “We’ve become dependent on them for many things – gas, milk, bread, and all those late night needs. You are highly valued, needed, and wanted in our city.”
