Exhibition “Give color to the saints” in the Collegiate Church in Salzburg
Salzburg, October 21, 2022 (KAP) Even today, saints are complex, “colored” personalities. This is illustrated by an exhibition on the topic “Give color to the saints” in the Kollegienkirche Salzburg, which will open on October 30, 2022 with a vernissage at 2 p.m. The artists Jutta Blühberger from Strobl and Rudolf Brudl from Straßwalchen have dealt intensively with twelve saints from the Collegiate Church and artistically bring the life and work of these special people closer to the visitors. Contemporaries of Jesus such as Joseph of Nazareth, John the Baptist and Luke the Evangelist are among them, as are Martin of Tours, Francis of Assisi, Teresa of Avila and Bernhard of Clairvaux.
On the one hand, pictures and texts are intended to help “to make these saints, some of whom are little or only superficially known, clear so that we encounter them as human beings on an equal footing,” explains Jutta Blühberger on her website. These exemplary Christians were people with mistakes and weaknesses, but had experienced and achieved extraordinary things through their relationship with God. “On the other hand, each of them had special concerns that they campaigned for. Most of them are just as relevant today,” the artist continued.
Blühberger and Brudl designed works of art for six saints each measuring 100 by 140 centimetres, some in acrylic, tempera, oil or wax. Jutta Blühberger also wrote a style of scroll poems for each of the twelve sacred texts, in which the saints introduce themselves and consider what might still be relevant today about the people concerned. The exhibition is open from 30 October to 20 November 2022 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The artists will be present around lunchtime on the weekends and will be available to answer any questions.
