“The ‘Peichl cake’ – 50 years of the Landesstudio Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Dornbirn” on October 20th in ORF 2
Documentary on the occasion of the anniversary at 9:05 p.m
Vienna (OTS) – The ORF state studios in Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Dornbirn are celebrating their 50th anniversary! On Thursday, October 20, 2022, the documentary “The ‘Peichl cake’ – 50 years of the regional studios in Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Dornbirn” at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 will follow in 50 minutes the special feature of the architecture of the ORF regional studios Gustav Peichl were realized. The documentation not only illuminates the revolutionary construction, but also shows the television reports that were produced in 1972 by the respective state studios and broadcast nationally.
The erection of the buildings in Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Dornbirn was an expression of the regionalization of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation – due to their construction, they were quickly dubbed “Peichl-Torte” in the vernacular. However, the buildings did not meet with approval from all fellow citizens.
The documentation also provided an insight into the contributions that the state studios produced for various ORF formats in 1972: the exclusion of ski star Karl Schranz from the 1972 Winter Olympics caused an uproar in Austria, national pride was offended and thousands of people took to the streets. There was cheering and beatings when US President Richard Nixon made a stopover in Salzburg and there was an argument between demonstrators and the police. Fifty years ago, people were probably also excited if they ignored the kissing ban and received a ticket for it in Linz. In 1972 the miniskirt was very popular, a fashion trend that started in Vorarlberg.
Then as now, the contributions from and about the Salzburg and Bregenz Festivals were of particular importance and meaning for the ORF. Then as now, Austrians also had to contend with a wave of inflation, power shortages and high food prices.
An entertaining and informative journey through 50 years of ORF regional studios in Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Dornbirn, interesting insights into the architecture, stories from the regional studios and a “fake story” from back then.
The ORF-TVthek will provide the documentation as a live stream and on demand for seven days after the TV broadcast. The 50th anniversary of the opening of the “Peichl cakes” is also celebrated online with a video review in the form of “50 pieces” on tv.ORF.at/50pieces. The history of the origins of the buildings, which were much discussed at the time, as well as those that have long since become legendary, are remembered, as well as a kaleidoscopic look at other important events in the opening year 1972.
