The formation team Aerodynamix of the army sports club Red Bull Salzburg represents Austria at the World Championships in Arizona (USA). The four skydivers take part in the team competition, in which the athletes have to complete a program with different positions in the air together.
The HSV Red Bull Salzburg formation team, called “Aerodynamix”, consists of Sebastian Graser, Manuel Sulzbacher, Kevin Wagner and Michael Hribernik, as well as cameraman Michael Urban. Austria was the only team to compete in the World Parachute Championships, where teams from over 30 nations will compete in the various disciplines of formation parachuting until October 26th. Due to the good development of the performances of the Salzburg team in the past two years, they were selected to represent Austria there as the only team.
Free fall coordination at around 200 km/h
“The challenge in formation jumping is to find the coordination and rhythm of all four jumpers, to stay in sync, but above all to have speed. That’s why good technique is the most important thing. The timing has to be right too. There is no minimum number of jumps that are necessary to jump in formation, but you should have a certain amount of experience, and the more jumps you have, the more stable and better you are in freefall, of course,” explains Manuel Sulzbacher complexity of this discipline.
Cameraman films jumps in the air
The cameraman also has to fly very precisely, because his job is to document the competition jury. Therefore, it is important that all holds and formations are correctly seen on the footage he shoots.
Prime discipline target jumping
Skydiving is regularly the parade discipline for the athletes at HSV Red Bull Salzburg. But for the past two years, a formation team has also been established, which also jumped at the military world championships with an extremely good performance in the field, and for a few months had also secured the runner-up title in the 4-way formation.
