High gloss looks different. A visitor from Berlin had ideas about her arrival at the main train station in Munich that did not come true.
Munich – If Berlin were a meal, the kebab would extend Germany’s capital. Symbolic for Munich could stand for Involtini of Arctic char with scamorza and parsnip cream. So much for the clichés about the rancid federal capital and the snobby Isar metropolis. As is so often the case, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Or not?
Woman from Berlin is surprised when she arrives in Munich: “THIS is the first thing you see”
During her visit to Munich, a woman from Berlin had an experience that left her completely perplexed. “I always hear that Berlin is dirty and that everything is going wrong there. Then you come to ‘rich’ Munich, and THAT is the first thing you see,” she said in a Twitter post about her arrival at the main train station. The reason for the distress of the Spanish-speaking lady (therefore her classification was translated into German, ed.) is a representative sketch that is posted at Munich’s hub.
Attached to a grid, the “graphic” is intended to provide passengers with orientation on their way to the underground and S-Bahn. The symbols of the highly frequented means of transport are properly drawn, but with a felt-tip pen – on paper. The same goes for the stylized staircase, which should show the way to the passengers. Since the visit from Berlin is then already mighty surprised. To use the cliché: Munich should actually have the wherewithal to hang up a “real” sign.
The snapshot caused a lot of amusement on Twitter. “The whole center of Munich is a single construction site,” comments one user. Another is sad not to have the curious guide so far.
“New” central station could correspond more to Munich clichés
It will be a few more years before the “new” main station is finished. That can be after one Visit to the construction site guess.
