The 24-year-old lifts the POTY award as the Celtic loan duo enjoy a successful weekend
Celtic’s on-loan goalkeeper Conor Hazard was chosen as HJK Helsinki’s supporter’s player of the year after his team lifted the Finnish league championship at the weekend.
It has been a superb season for the Northern Ireland international, who helped his side to a sixth league title in the last seven years.
Hazard played his last league match of the campaign on Sunday night, when HJK lost 1-0 to KuPS. However, the current Finnish champions had already delivered the championship the previous week and instead were in a party mode after the match ended.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper not only celebrated his team’s success, but was also presented with his own personal award after the match.
HJK Helsinki’s official supporters’ association awarded Hazard as player of the year for his contribution to the team’s championship.
Before the Finnish champions’ season officially ends, Hazard has a few more games on loan as they play their final two UEFA Europa League games against AS Roma and Real Betis in the coming weeks.
From now on, it remains to be seen what the goalkeeper will bring, as his current contract with Celtic expires next summer.
Elsewhere, it was also a winning weekend for another Celtic loanee, Albian Ajeti, which was on the leaderboard of Sturm Graz.
The Swiss striker fired the Austrian side away last weekend, scoring his first goal since joining late in the summer transfer window.
Adjusting to life at his new club, Ajeti looks to be settling in nicely as he also looks to fire them to Europa League group stage success after he played in a 2-2 draw with Lazio midway through last week.
In domestic action, however, the Hoops striker has more joy in front of goal, having added his second strike for Sturm Graz in his last two league starts as they beat Wolfsberger.
And it was the key goal of the game that ultimately secured their 3-2 win, with Ajeti and his team currently in second place, two points above RB Salzburg.
The two sides meet at the top of the table next weekend and the Swiss international looks to be in good form heading into the trip.
The loan success leaves hope for Celtic’s players to move on to the next season.
Both Hazard and Ajeti failed to make a real impact under Ange Postecoglou. So you could imagine that the on-loan Celtic duo want to impress at their current clubs.
And they certainly seem to be going in the right direction at this point, with Hazard picking up individual accolades and Ajeti getting on the scoresheet.
It seems almost certain that we will see both players leave Parkhead permanently either in the January window or next summer.
So hopefully, for all parties’ sake, they can maintain their form and earn the best possible move, which will see them playing football regularly.
