Munich today – News from October 17th, 2022 – Munich
Anyone strolling through Maxvorstadt these days, or rather in the vicinity of the TU and LMU, will quickly notice that university life is flourishing again. The cafés and bars are full, significantly more younger (new) Munich residents are out and about. You suddenly think back to your own university days when you’re asked in the bar in the evening: “Hey, I’ve been in town for two days – what else is going on here?”
I can still remember my first days at the Ludwig Maximilian University. The excitement before the first lecture, the nervousness of finding the right rooms, presentation topics and people, as well as the many new impressions that you gather in a very short time. On the very first day I met fellow students who I can still count among my best friends.
It was that time again today: The first unit day in Bavaria has begun. With a blue sky, a pleasant 22 degrees and bright sunshine, Munich showed itself from its best side and welcomed the students in the winter semester. My colleague Dilara Rix and I were walking in front of the LMU. What is the mood? Are you looking forward to the face-to-face events and Freshers’ Week? What do you expect from this semester? And who will get the obligatory first-time wristband to get to know the city’s clubs?
The enthusiasm of the young people could already be felt on Saturday, when thousands gathered on the meadow in front of the Alte Pinakothek to “really escalate again” before the start of the semester (quote from a WhatsApp message that circulated over the weekend).
Speaking of Freshers’ Week: We’ve put together a list of cafés, bars and restaurants that you should know about in the university area. As tips for all (new) students, but of course also for everyone who wants a little university feeling.
