Ikea invests 50M€ in the construction of more warehouses in Portugal
Ikea is preparing to invest 50 million euros in the construction of new warehouses in Portugal.
The investment involves reducing the relationship between the warehouses and the growth of online sales, with the same objective of giving the time of your deliveries. Thus, the 50 million euros will be used, namely, for the construction of a large warehouse located in Loures as small investments in the logistics section of the others, as is the case of Alfragide.
Speaking to Jornal de Negócios, Ricardo Pereira, CFO and deputy director of Ikea Portugal, confessed that “at the moment, our country works with a logistics center that is still in Spain and we consider that it is very far from what is the our market. We want to be more efficient, we have greatly increased online share, and the closer we are to the customer experience, the better the shopping experience”.
As stated in the brand’s press release, “the logistical transformation of Ikea’s business, crucial for this growth, involves renovations and expansions in the creative buildings in Alfragide and Loures, with the improvement of support areas for logistics processes and – commerce, but also through the opening of new physical contact points, with the opening of new planning studios”.
It can also be read in the aforementioned newspaper that Ikea will open a planning studio in the city center of Lisbon on Avenida da República, in the Campo Pequeno area, in late spring/early summer 2023.
Ikea exceeds 550 million euros in sales in the country
In the statement released by the company, it is also possible to observe that the trademark registered, in fiscal year 2022, sales of 552 million euros, which represents 19.5% more than in the previous year and 15% above the values registered in the year. fiscal 2019 in the pre-pandemic period.
The company set “in a year with no recorded percentage of Portuguese in-store sales, the online sharing during 4 days of sales that was part of about 4 in the 2019 fiscal year, which demonstrates that the new habits gained by the fur due to the pandemic remain after the reopening of trade”.
In the same document, Ricardo Pereira stated: “In a year full of challenges, Ikea’s sales exceeded expectations and this success was largely due to the increasingly important role of the house in the lives of the Portuguese. Our main objective continues to ensure that the Ikea offering continues to be affordable for our customers, especially now that we are helping to increase the cost of living across the board.”
