Art Ukraine, une exposition solidaire à Bordeaux : Aqui !
The Pierre Fanlac media library in Périgueux retains a rich heritage fund of 130 manuscripts, more than 60 incunabula (printed before 1501) and approximately 45,000 printed volumes including rare books, emblazoned bindings… This living fund is constantly growing, particularly around the themes related to Périgord: history of the region, authors born or having resided in the Dordogne gastronomy, prehistory… Thanks to the support of the State and the New Aquitaine region, the media library develops and enriches the common heritage.
Each year, the acquisitions of the past year are the subject of an exhibition. The health crisis has made it impossible to show the public the latest acquisitions. Until September 30, the general public can discover them.
32 works
In 2020 and 2021, the media library thus acquired 32 new works and a fairly large batch of correspondence and photographs by Léon Bloy. Particular attention was paid to the history of music in Périgord with the acquisition of 5 scores and a work giving pride of place to the composer Fernand de la Tombelle and to Eugène Chaminade, choirmaster at the Saint- Facade at the end of the 19th century.
The religious history of the Dordogne is also well represented through three newly acquired books, including the original 1750 edition of the Catechism, by the bishop of Périgueux, Jean-Chrétien de Prémeaux. Another book, rare and not available at the National Library of France, printed in Bergerac in 1905, testifies to the healing of a Périgord woman during the pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1904.
Other works acquired shed light on the history, architecture or the development of tourism in the Dordogne. Two original editions of Occitan literature, one by Auguste Hilaire Chastanet, the other by Aimé Jardry complete the broad spectrum of acquisitions in the media library’s conservation area. A 1928 play entitled Joséphine et Joséphine, an unusual work by Marguerite Schwob and Daniel Parr, pays homage to two female personalities who left their mark on the Dordogne: Joséphine de Beauharnais and Joséphine Baker.
The fund attributed to Georges Goursat dit Sem, poster artist, illustrator and caricaturist from Périgord has been nicely enriched with four plates, three drawings and two albums including the magnificent Sem au bois, an accordion book several meters long, produced in 1908 with the painter Auguste Roubille, accompanied by his diorama.
During Heritage Days, the public will be able to attend the presentation of an exceptional manuscript on September 16 at 1 p.m. and during guided tours on September 17 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. & 4 p.m.
