Activist from Galp Lisboa’s entry company in protest against the role of oil companies in the crisis – Atualidade
In statements to the Lusa agency, João de Climáximo, a collective of activists who fight for justice at the entrance with telephone, said that the activists are guaranteeing the entrance of Galp, some of them glued to the glass doors of the building.
“There was a lockdown that started at 8:15 am. The headquarters, the main entrance is locked with more than 20 activists, with several glued to the companies. At this moment the police arrived [cerca das 10:00]”, said João Camargo.
The Climate activist underlined that the objective is “to stop regular and criminal activity within this company”.
“With this action, we want to make unequivocal the reality that companies like Galp and its multi-million profits are responsible for the increase in the cost of living in Portugal and for the climate environment. (…) Companies like Galp have to be stopped,” he said.
According to Climáximo, “Galp’s record profits of 420 million euros in the first half are directly related to the increase in prices and inflation”.
For activists, the “rising cost of living of people in countries around the world is a consequence of a capitalist economy to be addicted to fossils”.
According to the energy crisis, “in the midst of this social crisis, by building the energy crisis and social governments and war cries are operating on top of the energy crisis, instead of living to wipe out fossils, they will continue to subsidize this energy. and fossils, will continue to subsidize that energy and fossils plus infrastructure.”
João Camargo told Lusa that activists do not want to speak with those responsible for the company.
“We have to be honest. We have nothing to talk about with Galp. We don’t want any dialogue with companies that do worse for the present and the future”, she concluded.
