“We will work hard to have Formula 1 in Portugal in 2024”
DDuring this weekend, the European Le Mans Series takes place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. In Portimão, there was the opportunity to speak with Paulo Pinheiro, CEO of the Algarve, who confirmed to us that Formula 1 can soon return to ours.
Asked if the possibility of an F1 returning to the track of Portimão with Barcelona, Paulo Pinheiro did not mention that fact, but confirmed that 2024 could be the year of return.
“It’s in ours, a lot, a lot to have Formula 1 in Portugal in 2024. It’s a very big goal that we have”, he revealed, in statements when working to the Auto per Minute. “State support? We have to do what is within our power. We are going to do our job, we have proved ourselves in the past and we will more than think about what we can do”, he also added about the possible return of Formula 1 to our return.
Paulo Pinheiro does not guarantee that his major objective will be achieved, but he made it clear that the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will always be prepared to receive the highest category of motor sport, even if this entails an extra financial effort.
“We had an opportunity to be prepared, in case we get tests, races and we have some opportunity to be prepared to have tests, races and we have some opportunity to be ready to receive Formula 1. It costs money to receive Formula 1. It does. money with grade 2. , but not keep it and we will keep it without investment.” We want to, stressed the CEO of Autódromo do Algarve.
2023 will be a busy year
And if Formula 1 is a possibility in 2024, MotoGP, World Endurance (WEC) and European Endurance (ELMS) are already a certainty for 2023.
“It’s going to be a very intense year of work, yes. We’re going to have 354 days of occupancy and we’re going to have less than 25 races throughout the year. It’s very intense. A relatively, but very, very dedicated team, which is our point strong”, stressed Paulo Pinheiro.
