Large performance show of the Noriker horse breeders – salzburg.ORF.at
Culture
In Niedernsill (Pinzgau) 13 breeders of Noriker horses met on Sunday to show their animals. They used to be pure workhorses for tough tasks in the mountains. Today Noriker are part of the traditional cultural heritage. They have their historical origins in Pinzgau.
120 mares and four stallions enjoyed the large audience on the Samerfeld in Niedernsill on Sunday. The breeding clubs P2 and P5 with their 75 breeders between Fusch and Krimml are now presenting the first joint show in 25 years.
Club chairman Josef Altenberger says it is a very nice exhibition: “Everyone can show their horse, there are no criteria. How nice it is, then tell him the judges.”
“Breeding quality generally very good”
Anton Renn is the provincial chairman of all horse breeders in Salzburg: “It is important that everything is exhibited, the quality is very good. There are five criteria in the evaluation.”
The youngsters are also enthusiastic about the Noriker, like the student Katharina Brugger from Uttendorf, who has a Noriker herself: “You have to clean the horse a lot and feed it well.”
Niedernsiller proud of their heraldic animal
Success in breeding also requires the necessary luck, which the horse owners ask for from the pastor and from God together with the blessing. This blessing is also intended to protect against accidents and illnesses, as Mayor Günther Brennsteiner from Niedernsill (ÖVP) describes: “It is a ceremony in our community. We are proud bearers of the horse in our coat of arms.”
Breeding association chairman Renn also emphasizes that the horses are very important in the region for leisure, sport, breeding and festival purposes.
