Job opportunities in the east of Slovakia are growing: But there is one catch!
The largest labor market has returned to the east of Slovakia. Students, unemployed, but also working people came to look for new job opportunities. Among the lucky ones with a new job is the Ukrainian Anton (59), who came to the big market as a son. The greatest interest among visitors was mainly in the field of information technology. Both men and women were looking for a new job here.
Job opportunities in the east of growth are not the worst distributed in the country. The executive director of Profesia, Ivana Molnárová, stated that the Košice and Prešovský regions are among the most extensive, together with the regions in central Slovakia. “However, compared to other regions, they offer the worst distribution of job opportunities. Most of them in both Eastern regions are concentrated around only one or two cities,” said Molnárová.
As statistics show, work in the field of information technology is the domain of Košice. “In other Košice districts, we only see these job opportunities sporadically,” added Molnárová. However, the greatest interest among Košice applicants is in another area. “Almost 80 percent of administrative job opportunities in the region are exclusively in Košice. When they are looking for employees outside of Košice, they most often offer offers in production and trade,” added Molnárová.
Analysts in the area of the labor market have good news for eastern Slovakia. Improvement of the working situation, especially in the metropolis of the East. “In the Košice region, we observe that the number of job offers grew compared to 2019, outside of the more prominent Košice, only in Michalovci. Some districts even took offense. The worst situation is especially in the districts of Gelnica and Sobrance,” said Molnárová.

Experience: 4.5 years in the construction industry
New job: Information technology
“I work in the field of construction focused on the production of large iron and steel structures. I came here because I want to change my work focus to IT, that is a sphere that offers more space, more possibilities even around the world, so that I am not tied to working hours. I managed to arrange five interviews, but I am determined to go to one specific IT company where they are interested in me. But at the same time, I will still need training, because in IT, that is education for life.”

New job: Information technology
“I am a trained HR specialist and lecturer. I worked for 9 years at the employment office, I wanted to change that, that’s why I resigned. I came here looking for something different, a better paying job than in the state administration.
