Dunkirk – Caen (Division 1, 2nd day) | Division 1 – Ice Hockey
Jonathan Lafrance’s debut behind the Dunkirk bench was crowned with success on the ice of Strasbourg, where the rookies stood out. The Corsairs have returned to their enclosure for the reception of the Drakkars, also haloed with an entry victory against Mont-Blanc and particularly inspired in recent seasons on the ice of Raffoux.
Barely three years after its inauguration, the enclosure of the maritime city already seems too cramped and all the tickets have found takers several hours before kick-off. Carried by their public, the Dunkirks quickly follow the sequences in the offensive zone, where we see the former Montpellier Daniel Svoboda shine in overflow on the left side. The fourth line thinks for a time to be at the origin of the opening of the score, but the whistle has held back beforehand. The Caennais retaliated with a first counter-attack which saw Dufour collide with Léo Bertein.
In superiority following an obstruction from Hamrlik, Dunkirk uses Ronan Quemener by Benjamin Duperreault, double scorer in Alsace and foiled from close. Joseph Broutin advances in turn for a similar result. The former international remains imperturbable on the return to five, mastering a climb from Roswell and a test from Svoboda, who nevertheless took the time to control the disc. The end of the third is marked by two throws flirting with the quantities, coming from Matyáš Hamrlik on the Caen side and from Svoboda, a volley for the locals.
Surprised by Pierre-Antoine Devin, who forces their goalkeeper to make a double save, the Corsairs find themselves in double superiority because a tripping by Carminati is followed by a puck cleared out of bounds. Ethan Roswell controls Parker Colley’s pass and finds the fault (1-0 at 21’29″). Ronan Quemener redeems himself well on a game of three Young – Budínský – Broutin, but his vis-à-vis will be the main actor in the second act. Author of a fine save in front of Captain Ménard, served in a very favorable position, he faced the massive Norman attack. In turn upset by the amount, Félix Chamberland sees in the following seconds his shot repelled by Bertein, masked. Gagnon, by missing his recovery at the far post, facilitates the task of the goalkeeper trained at the club. Chamberland then goes on a breakaway on an inferiority, feigns the goalkeeper but the latter ends up opposing a solid boot.
The multiplication of northern faults exposes their last rampart a little more, helped by Young in front of Beckstead and… by a failure from Bushbacher, alerted by Chamberland facing the open cage. More realistic, Jonathan Lafrance’s men are widening the gap before the second break. Lubomir Dinda also sees his shot hit the post, but from the left Ethan Roswell crosses his shot in traffic (2-0 at 38’39″). Norman pressure is still strong, carried by Janil and especially Chamberland, whose intentions are still undermined by Bertein’s boots. Vit Budínský was fouled by Ménard in the corner, but the power play stalled and the Maritimes were about to suffer late in the game. Léo Bertein remains imperturbable, accumulating parades, even lying on the ground. He blocks Raphaël Chauvel’s try, once again thwarts Bushbacher, blocks Hamrlik’s hard shot and his helmet deflects Tassery’s to kill two successive penalties.
Julien Guimard recalls his goalkeeper to the bench three minutes from time. Situation taken advantage of by Ethan Roswell to find the back of the net and the hat-trick (3-0 at 57’13″), which will allow him to delight a Léo Bertein of the big nights the title of man of the match. Like Chauvel, disgusted in front of the enclave, it was not the evening of the Drakkars, taken from behind by Daniel Svoboda (4-0 at 59’44″), author of the third but Dunkirk in an empty cage since the start of the season.
