European Anti-Poverty Network to export “dramatic realities” in Portugal
“Pobre Povo” is the name of the campaign, announced today and which will be on the streets on October 17, on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
“Witnessing and denouncing the growing poverty in our country” is the objective of the national campaign announced by REAP, which promises to reveal “dramatic realities of many and many Portuguese”.
initiative is based on 20 different posters with “a direct, monochromatic and dark image, referring to mourning”.
Each poster tells a story, a testimony, adapted to phrases collected in the local councils of citizens of the network in Portugal.
“I don’t know what the meat tastes like anymore. I usually have bread for dinner, or, with luck, crackers” or “We had to deliver the house. In a month we’ll go out to live with the kids” and “Because of the rent I live 35km from work. I leave home at 5 am and arrive at 10 pm.” Examples of what will appear are posters.
“While the serious problem that is poverty is not resolved, we will all be responsible and poor because this scourge and because society fails”, defends REAP’s executive director, Sandra Araújo, quoted in the campaign’s presentation statement. .
In addition to the posters, the campaign has its own Instagram account (where testimonies and content related to the initiative will be shared).
The are part of the week that marks the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which the network celebrates with more than 135 activities between 17 and 24 October.
