MU Krakow: In memory of Władysław Gałka
Teacher, co-founder and soldier of the National Military Organization and the Home Army, a prisoner of communism. Władysław Gałka was born on October 13, 1914 in Jodłówka in the Bochnia poviat, in the family of Jan (mayor of Jodłówka) and Katarzyna née Kłuś. They were the oldest of eight siblings. In 1934, he passed his diploma examination and taught teaching in public and private elementary schools. As a labor teacher still in Ostrołęka, he works as an employee of Stolin and Busko-Zdrój.
In 1939, he fought in the ranks of the 2nd Legions Infantry Regiment in the area of the Borowskie Mountains and Zamość. I was a platoon commander and then a company commander. On September 24, he was taken prisoner by the Germans. He escaped during the march. He reached the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, where he joined the unit of Maj. Henryk Dobrzański “Hubal”.
At the end of December 1946, he made contact with Adam Doboszyński, a national activist who had secretly arrived in Poland. She met him several times and, together with Marian Pajdak, helped with organizational matters. On May 29, 1947, Gałka was arrested by the Security Service and subjected to a brutal investigation. After the prison “trial” on October 28, 1949, he was sentenced to death. Months later, the prison was changed to 15 years.
He never gave up his dream of a free Poland. Today I was allowed to be able to, if I were still working for Poland, I would continue to do it, but I would dream as I had dreamed all my life. I would like Christ to come back on the walls of houses and live in all hearts, he wrote [list z Rawicza, 21 VIII 1953 r.].
He was constantly under surveillance by the communist SB. You had four daughters in your marriage to Victoria. He died on March 9, 1981 in Bochnia.
