Fiaker grievances contradicts: VGT Salzburg demonstrates in front of the Preuner office | VGT
Around 10 VGT activists are demonstrating today against a contract extension with the Salzburg Fiakers
I absolutely cannot understand that Mayor Preuner wants to agree to a new contract. This is an ignorance that cannot be surpassed. The voices for a ban on carriages are getting louder and louder – and not just from the VGT. It seems that the mayor takes neither the suffering of the horses nor the concerned citizens of Salzburg, who are in favor of an end to the carriages in Salzburg, seriously.

Vienna (OTS) – In the summer of 2022, activists of the VGT documented numerous Deficiencies in the fiakers. At the end of April 2023, the existing contract for the Fiaker with the city of Salzburg expires. That’s why animal rights activists from the VGT are demonstrating today in front of the office of the ÖVP Mayor Preuner in Mirabell Palace.
As new documentation from the VGT shows, Fiakers violate more than ten criteria of the award procedure and the additional operational and disciplinary regulations (Appendix 7, Appendix 8). In view of the numerous grievances, animal cruelty and disregard of the award criteria that have been without any consequences remained, a contract extension cannot be justified.
Mayor Preuner will write a positive official report despite all the grievances that have been uncovered and will not only extend the contract for a further 5 years, but will also maintain the 35-degree heat limit with measurement in the open-air hall, although the municipal council unanimously agreed that there was no heat from 30 degrees and a temperature measurement as early as 2020 at Residenzplatz has decided.
Georg Prinz from the VGT is outraged: “I absolutely cannot understand that Mayor Preuner wants to agree to a new contract.
“
