So Salzburg can move into the CL round of 16
After yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Dinamo Zagreb, the Salzburg “bulls” still have everything in their own hands when it comes to a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. In the parallel game, Chelsea beat AC Milan 2-0 away, resulting in the following constellation in Group E:
- 1st place: Chelsea with 7 points
- 2nd place: RB Salzburg with 6 points
- 3rd place: AC Milan with 4 points
- 4th place: Dinamo Zagreb with 4 points
All four clubs are therefore very close, in the deepest two rounds Salzburg meet Chelsea at home and then travel to Italy. The simplest solution: Austria’s representative wins both games or wins one game and draws once. Two draws would not be enough to ensure an international hibernation. Should Salzburg lose both games, one could still hope for third place, which would be associated with “relegation” to the Europa League – in this case Zagreb should neither win against Chelsea nor against Milan.
An away win in Italy would mean leaving Milan behind – that would already put the chance of progressing very well. If the direct duels against the Croatians are used, Salzburg will definitely have the edge after a draw and a win. Dinamo Zagreb beat Chelsea 1-0 on Matchday 1 but lost 3-1 to AC Milan in the second game.
