Robbed Dominik fell into a diabetic coma in Germany: Transport to Slovakia would cost tens of thousands of euros
No one wanted to help Dominik on the street, they thought he was drunk, but he was fighting for his life, they write noviny.sk. “Dominik was left without insulin at the station. When he arrived at the hospital with the policemen, he collapsed. They resuscitated him for two long hours, his small intestine ruptured, which had to be operated on. He only had 50 cm left,” Dominika was told by her friend Vlasta Popovičová.
After the operation, he fell into a coma, he got severe blood poisoning. Doctors gave him only a 5 percent chance of survival. He finally managed it. “They woke him up from artificial sleep only after three days. He is still in an awake coma, they started responding to stimuli, nodding,” he can show said Popovičová.
However, Dominic’s condition is still serious. He also needs psychological support, so the family is trying to transport him to Slovakia. But such transportation is very expensive. He would have to be flown in and a doctor would have to be with him. Unfortunately, Dominik did not have travel insurance, so the insurance company refused to cover the transport.
“Social or family reasons, the wishes of the family or the insured are not reasons for extraordinary transportation. The insurance company reviews extraordinary transportation in exceptional cases – for example, if the insured is hospitalized abroad for longer than 90 days or if it is assumed that after this period the financial annual treatment will exceed the costs of transporting it in Slovakia,” VŠZP spokeswoman Eva Peterová.

“When traveling and staying abroad, if it is Europe, it is best not to rely only on EPZP, but to combine it with commercial travel insurance. Its advantage is assistance services in case of need.” explained Eva Jacková, communications manager at the Slovak Association of Insurance Companies.
Dominik hardly communicates in German, he doesn’t even understand the nurses.“We want to get him to Slovakia, because he absolutely needs psychological support. He is very sad, he is crying, he does not know what is being done to him, what is being done to him, what is happening to him,” Popovičová said.
In connection with the transfer to Slovakia, the family set up a collection on a transparent account. The call for help went viral on the social network in just one day. Dominik’s girlfriend and mother are currently in Germany at real expense. They had to take vacation and unpaid time off at work. They hope that they will be able to get Dominika home.
