“Rise? It’s a brutal group”
Red Bull Salzburg drew 1-1 with Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday. Group E closes down to three points.
Dinamo Zagreb and FC Salzburg parted ways on Matchday 4 of the Champions League group stage with a 1-1 draw. Salzburg took the lead in the 12th minute through Nicolas Seiwald, Dinamo then took over and equalized just before the break through Robert Ljubicic. He is the first Austrian to score against an Austrian team in a Champions League game.
After the change of sides, Dinamo continued to dominate, but at some point the Croatian champions lost their strength. Salzburg then had a really good phase with, among other things, a crossbar shot by Luka Sucic. At the other end, Dinamo could have scored the winning goal late on, but Joker Bockaj also failed to hit the crossbar with his free kick.
Jaissle: “Draw is okay”
“If you look at the whole game, the draw is okay. In the last half hour in particular, we really pushed the button again, so I would have liked us to make it 2-1,” analyzed Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle heaven the party. “We won the direct duel with Zagreb and as a result gained the necessary self-confidence for the last two tasks.”
Due to the draw, Dinamo now has four points and is third in the table. Salzburg have six points and are second in Group E. Chelsea are in first place, while AC Milan are bottom of the table.
“It’s a brutal group, it’s going to be a tougher fight to the end. We want to winter internationally. After winning the direct duel against Zagreb, the signs are now quite good, but nothing has been decided yet,” said Jaissle. “Our situation in the table is strong and we are proud of that. We are still undefeated.”
The Champions League continues for Dinamo Zagreb on October 25 with the home game against AC Milan from 9 p.m. The home game against leaders Chelsea awaits Salzburg on the same day from 6:45 p.m.
