Paris: the police headquarters still expresses “concerns” about the “Grand site Tour Eiffel”
Like his predecessor, the prefect of police of Paris Laurent Nuñez assured this Wednesday, October 12 that he still had a certain number of concerns regarding traffic, in particular emergency vehicles, near the Grand site Tour Eiffel. In front of the elected members of the Council of Paris, he mentioned the “unfavorable opinion” of the prefecture to this project.
The Paris police chief has some reservations about the Grand Site Tour Eiffel. “Regarding the traffic difficulties around the project that is selected, I confirm that the police headquarters has a number of concerns on the subject and that my already due had written to the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo last May on this point. of view”, explained Laurent Nuñez this Wednesday.
A recommended review “confirmed at this stage”
In particular, he recalled his competence as Paris police chief to ensure “good traffic flow” around “sensitive sites” such as the surroundings of the Eiffel Tower, but also “on the roads that make it possible to transport relief and vehicles of general interest”.

Or, on these two themes, the latter mentioned “concerns” which remained “in view of the studies which have been produced”. “There are a number of uncertainties on this subject, which preferred my opinion to issuing a confirmed opinion which I confirmed at this stage and in the state of knowledge of this file”, affirmed Laurent Nuñez.
And if the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and her first deputy Emmanuel Grégoire recalled that six building permits had already been validated by the Paris police headquarters, Laurent Nuñez insisted on “bringing the precision” that a certain number of Uncertainties existed “especially as we approach the period of the Olympic Games” and that the traffic difficulties could “be aggravated”.
As a reminder, the Parisian municipality is carrying out the project to completely redevelop the public space between Place du Trocadéro (16th) to the École Militaire (7th) via the entire area located at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. A redevelopment “for more nature and fewer cars” for the benefit of pedestrians and soft mobility which provides for the closure of a certain number of traffic lanes.
“It is high time to update your traffic studies”, for his part claimed the mayor of the 15th district Philippe Goujon, asking Laurent Nuñez to confirm the opinion given by the police headquarters on this subject. And to launch: “better balancing the public space does not mean paralyzing major axes of movement, prohibiting access for emergency services, or producing massive traffic reports with more noise and atmospheric pollution”.
