Discussion topic energy: Monauni at the EU ministerial meeting in Prague – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The ministers responsible for energy from the EU and EFTA countries met in Prague on Wednesday. According to the Ministry of the Interior, Economy and Environment, the discussions at the meeting revolve around the challenges posed by the war in Ukraine and the coming winter on the European gas and electricity market.
Liechtenstein was represented in Prague by Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni. Representatives of the countries of the Western Balkans, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, some of which are connected to the European energy market, also took part. Also high-ranking representatives of EU institutions and international organizations in the field of energy measures participated in the informal exchange.
The Russian attack on Ukraine, the availability of energy in the coming winter and rising gas and gas prices are posing major electricity challenges for the whole of Europe, the ministry said in its press release.
The European electricity and gas market is closely networked and there is a high degree of mutual dependency between the countries. In general, the participants express the desire for close cooperation. In the open discussions, possible reforms and concrete improvements of the European gas and electricity market were discussed. The individual and preparations for the coming winter were also a central topic of the talks.
It is precisely such an informal meeting that enables ministers to meet directly and in an uncomplicated manner. According to Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni, this open exchange is very valuable for Liechtenstein as a country in the middle of Europe.
